Dollhouse
The dollhouse collection is a culmination of a myriad of influences from different movements and revered members of the art world.
Marcel Duchamp declared that anything the artist produces is art. Andy Warhol reproduced large cans of Brillo Pads and it was considered revolutionary. These Tongue-in-cheek milestones of the art world have been a guidepost to this series. That, and the fondness of portrait photographers who have been able to capture world leaders, celebrities and migrant workers in addition to exposing the beauty of the more off-beat. Irving Penn, Yousuf Karsh, Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, just to name a few, created their own signature style of work, taking the medium one step further.
Using these influences and creating a series in which these inexpensive, mass-produced dolls become subjects of formal artistic portraits was challenging, fascinating and somewhat humorous.
